We are the times
“Bad times, hard times - this is what people keep saying, but let us live well, and times shall be good. We are the times: such as we are, such are the times.” - St. Augustine.
Hello, how have you been?
"We are the times, such as we are"…We have been shown this year what it means to let it go, or as I prefer to reframe it, to let it be. Then, to do it all over again. In the case you are holding your breath for 2021, as we all intimately might be and who can blame us? I think the invitation is getting clear and louder: don’t. Don’t hold your breath. The invitation is pointing for something deeper. Can we live right where we are, in the struggle of finding ourselves in a new way? In a new world? In our contradictions? Let’s not reduce our lives to calendar years, as if we are part of a video game marathon skipping into the next phases. We are much more complex and ambiguos than that and infinitely more resourceful. I think at this point we all agree, change is upon us, it’s not asking what we think of it or if we are ready. It’s here and it’s revealing what we struggle with: the grip, the appearances, the uncertainty. It’s asking what is important to each of us and what our values are. How we want to live. Who we want to be. It’s revealing that we need our most whole-full selves to be walking around this earth, spreading ourselves, counting on each other for sometimes ones need to sit down while others can stand up. Change is pinning us down right here and now, let us not be in the way of change.
With love,
Mariana
